How to Install Genesis Layout Extras Plugin, Manually

WordPress 4.6 Info+ If you update to WordPress 4.6 or higher, please make sure, you update BEFORE to Genesis 2.3.1 or higher! Otherwise you’ll get error — this has nothing to do with our plugin only with base Genesis but we want you to have safe update procedure of course. Layout extras plugin has been tested compat with WP 4.6.

NOTE: Only works with Genesis Framework (GPL-2.0+) as the parent theme. This is a paid premium product by StudioPress/ Rainmaker Digital LLC (former Copyblogger Media), available via studiopress.com.

Installation Steps

1. Installing alternatives:
   • via Admin Dashboard: Go to ‘Plugins > Add New’, search for “Genesis Layout Extras”, click “install”
   • OR via direct ZIP upload: Upload the ZIP package via ‘Plugins > Add New > Upload’ in your WP Admin
   • OR via FTP upload: Upload genesis-featured-page-extras folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
3. In your left-hand “Genesis Theme Settings” menu go to “Layout Extras”, setup your default layouts and you’re good to go :).
4. General usage: Set layout options DIFFERENT from the Genesis default for special sections.

Note: The “Genesis Framework” is required for this plugin in order to work. If you don’t own a copy it yet, this premium parent theme has to be bought. More info about that you’ll find here: http://ddwb.me/getgenesis

*) = Not with my “Genesis Prose Extras” plugin – that brings those layouts on its own, but with more optimized CSS 🙂

Additional Post Type Support:

• For public custom post types, enable Genesis Inpost Options (Layouts, SEO, Scripts)
• For public custom post types with archive support, enable Genesis Archive Settings

Special Advise:

Note: This plugin has been tested with WordPress branches 3.6 and also 3.5 (and also before with 3.4+, 3.3+, 3.2+) without any issues. It also works within Multisite installs – single activated and network activated, too. Remember, running with latest versions of Genesis and WordPress is always recommended.

Also Note: Installed/ active Genesis Framework, AT LEAST version 1.8 or higher (1.9.2+ recommended!), is required for this plugin in order to work!

Own translation/wording: For custom and update-secure language files please upload them to /wp-content/languages/genesis-layout-extras/ (just create this folder) – This enables you to use fully custom translations that won’t be overridden on plugin updates. Also, complete custom English wording is possible with that, just use a language file like genesis-layout-extras-en_US.mo/.po to achieve that (for creating one see the tools on “Other Notes”).
